Brawl In The Fall!

Red Dread Destroys Impressive Field In 2nd Straight, 4th Career Victory

Senior Event: 1st Time For 9 Time

Neck And Narke — Big Pair

Golf, Football, Pickleball, Community, Cold Ones & Pizza, doesn’t get much better!

10 of the finest, Gilly, Freck, Scooter, Travy, Red, Limo Bob, Hazzy, Da Big Guy, Spider & T Wally arrived Thursday, September 19th at The Plaza downtown. Thanks to Gilly’s effort, we had good rates and nice rooms at The Plaza.  Enjoyed watching TNF, gaming, live music and late-night Pop Up Pizza!

Friday morning, 9 Time received a “special” putter from Freck. 9 time only wishes his putter was that big!

Las Vegas Golf Club hosted this year’s Veggy Open. The 80 degree/sunny weather couldn’t have been better and the scores proved it. Last year, Red won with a 94. This year, Red won with an 81. Travy still has the Rickie Fowler moniker, best player never to win a major. Travy shot a very nice 87 and finished 2nd. Rounding out the top 5, Scooter shot 91, Freck 96 and Gilly 101. Congrats Red, you are on the path to pass 9 Time in the near future, will Scooter let this happen?

The senior (60+) Veggy winner was The Humble Ambassador, Scooter with a 91.

Friday evening, we all met in Gilly’s suite for a few words of wisdom, shirt unveiling and ceremonial shot. The Veggy CEO shared a few thoughts about how the word “neighbor” relates to our Veggy Open members. A poignant moment featuring a pooh emoji ipad video in honor of Scooter brought tears to all Veggy members. Replaying Da Big Guy’s EC dance with Taco and socks for all closed out the ceremony.

Thanks to Travy, we had 24 bottles of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout. We’ve moved up in class, is this replacing Old Crow?

Wearing our first class 2019 Veggy Open shirts (Thanks Scooter) we walked to Carson Kitchen for dinner. The walk was packed, due to the downtown Life is Beautiful concert, some very interesting attire we witnessed. Community dinner was way better than community gaming! Great food and service was enjoyed by all! Hazzy, Limo Bob, Da Big Guy and T Wally smoked Cohiba cigars and drank Micro brewed beer at 4 Queens. Lots of gaming back at The Plaza, we took over Pai Gaw, Blackjack and Let it Ride tables. Some members danced to Wonder Boogie, 70’s disco music.

Saturday’s 10:30 am tee off time at The Club in Sunrise for our 2nd annual Pairs Tourney was primed for prefect weather conditions. This event just may surpass the prestige for the individual Veggy Open. The pairings couldn’t have been fairer as the competition was brutal! Red and Da Big Guy did it again, barely eking out a win with a 90. Freck/Hazzy shot 91, Gilly/Wally 92, Scooter/Spider 93 and Limo Bob/Travy shot 94. Lots of fun with this competitive group, the Pairs Tourney as an addition to our annual event is a winner!

After the 19th hole, we headed to Gloria’s childhood friend, Janet Rohde, for the best lasagna in the universe! Gramma Glo rekindled the lasagna lunch get together, it just doesn’t get any better.  9 Time made The Pairs Trophy presentation (the trophy was approved by both wives) and we enjoyed lasagna, cold ones and had a great time eating outside at Janet’s house. Janet agreed that as long as Gloria is willing to make lasagna, she will host all Veggy lasagna lunch future events!

Sunday was cabana/football/pickleball day at The Plaza. Thanks to Gilly, our cabana was comped. Da Big Guy blew up 9 Time’s emoji pooh floatie and this was enjoyed by dozens of recipients at the pool, very funny. We watched The KC Chiefs win, very exciting game made Narke very happy. We did play pickleball, but not enough players to qualify for a VO Championship. Of course, Wally and Travy dominated! Several Euchre games as Limo Bob displayed some innate talent for this cerebral game. We cruised Freemont street, hit Hogs N Heifers, and had some killer pizza together later that evening. Some members gamed a lot, others danced with Wonder Boogie at Plaza Omaha Lounge. This band is really a lot of fun.

After an awesome breakfast at Hash House Monday morning, we Uber’d to the strip, Venetian Hotel. Gamed at Casino Royale, not good, but enjoyed a cold one at The Linq, pour whatever you want, very nice atmosphere. Thanks, Spider, for picking up the tab!  Had Jello shots and cold ones near The Linq, lunch at Ocean One (Thanks Freck for picking up the tab) and headed back to The Plaza for MNF. We watched Da Bears spank the Redskins, everyone but Gilly loved the game.

In closing, after 23 years of good friends hanging out in Veggy, it just doesn’t get any better. To a man, Veggy friends are the best we can ask for. Although family always comes first, our Veggy motto remains the same, “Life is precious, spend time with friends while you can.”

Yours in Veggy,

T Wally
